Once the Guru has accepted a disciple, He [She] will never leave him until the goal has been attained. The question of leaving does not arise at all. ~ Sri Anandamayi Maam_3by5_2

quotes from sri ramanuja gita bhashya on controlling the sense objects

11828782_562722530532167_4125576524705997585_n

Sri Ramanujacharya’s commentary on the shlokas 59 to 61 in the Chapter II of the Bhagavad Gita

The sense objects are the food of the sense. The sense objects turn away from one who has withdrawn his senses from objects. But still one may hold the relish for them.

Relish means hankering. This means that the hankering of the sense objects does not go away by abstinence alone.

But even this hankering will go away when one sees that the essential nature of the self is superior to the sense objects and that the realization of this self gives greater happiness than the enjoyment of sense objects.

When there is an attempt to subdue the sense objects and realize the self there will always be a conflict in the mind.

With a desire to overcome this mutual dependence between the subduing of the senses and vision of the Self, one has to conquer the senses which are difficult to subdue on account of their attachment to sense-objects.

So, focusing the mind on Me (Krishna) who am the only auspicious object for mediation let him remain steadfast. When the mind is focused on Me as its object, then such a mind, purified by the burning away of all impurities and devoid of attachment to the senses, is able to control the senses. Then the mind with the senses under control will be able to experience the self.

bagavad gita verses 7

THE SOUL WHO MEDITATES ON THE SELF IS CONTENT TO SERVE THE SELF AND RESTS SATISFIED WITHIN THE SELF ;  THERE REMAINS NOTHING MORE FOR HIM TO ACCOMPLISH .

GURU PRAYER

Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu
Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Sakshat Parabrahma
Tasmai Sri Guruve Namaha

The Guru is Brahma the creator, he is Vishnu the sustainer.
He is Lord Maheshwara (Shiva), the destroyer.
The Guru is the Supreme Absolute.
Salutations to the Guru.

Devotee: How is the Guru found?

Ramana Maharshi: God, who is immanent, in His grace takes pity on the loving devotee and manifests Himself according to the devotee’s development. The devotee thinks that He is a man and expects a relationship as between two physical bodies. But the Guru, who is God of the Self incarnate, works from within, helps the man to see the error of his ways and guides him in the right path until he realises the Self within.

Devotee: What should the devotee do then?

Ramana Maharshi: He has to only act up to the words of the Master and work within. The Master is both ‘within’ and ‘without’, so He creates conditions to drive you inward and at the same time prepares the ‘interior’ to drag you to the Centre. Thus He gives a push from ‘without’ and exerts a pull from ‘within’, so that you may be fixed at the Centre.

You think that the world can be conquered by your own efforts. When you are frustrated externally and are driven inwards, you will ‘Oh! There is a Power higher than man!’

The ego is like a very powerful elephant which cannot be brought under control by any less powerful than a lion, which, in this instance, is no other than the Guru, whose very look makes the elephant-like ego tremble and die.

You will know in due course that your glory lies where you cease to exist. In order to gain that state, you should surrender yourself. Then the Master sees that you are in a fit state to receive guidance, and He guides you.

Sri Ramana Maharshi

THE BODY MAY BE BEAUTIFUL AND  ALSO THE CONSORT ,

THE GLORY MAY BE SPREAD FAR AND WIDE,

THE WEALTH COMPARABLE TO MOUNT MERU  ,

BUT IF THERE IS NO DEVOTION TO  THE LOTUS FEET OF THE GURU ,

THEN OF WHAT USE IS  ALL THIS ,

OF WHAT USE, WHAT USE ?
